Shiftsmart Leverages Technology to Aid Covid-19 Vaccine Scheduling and Staffing

HR Tech Outlook | Friday, April 02, 2021

As per published daily statistics (CDC.gov March 15 report), 21.4 percent of people in the US have received one COVID-19 shot. About 11.5 percent have received both doses. Almost 20 percent of the vaccines distributed have not been utilized.

FREMONT, CA: In response to frustrations surrounding the COVID-19 vaccination appointment registration and inoculation efficiency, Shiftsmart is aiding major US cities with their vaccine rollout. Shiftsmart, a labor-management platform serving the modern workforce, is able to activate its global labor network to support all aspects of distribution. In just one US market, within two weeks, Shiftsmart has staffed approximately 20 vaccine sites, answered over 1,000 calls per hour, provided income for hundreds of workers, and assisted thousands of people in scheduling vaccination appointments.

As per published daily statistics (CDC.gov March 15 report), 21.4 percent of people in the US have received one COVID-19 shot. About 11.5 percent have received both doses. Almost 20 percent of the vaccines distributed have not been utilized. The current challenge is to get the distributed vaccines into the hands of the most vulnerable people. Millions of older Americans are registered for the vaccine, but they are having trouble getting one due to a lack of available technology and/or the skills needed to access registration websites. On a technologically unequal playing field, elderly people compete for a small vaccine supply.

When more states expand the requirements for receiving the vaccine, the number of people who are qualified and want to apply for it is growing. Millions of Americans of all ages are unable to correctly register for vaccine appointments due to a lack of access to and ability to operate technology.

Shiftsmart reacted to the issue by devising a plan of action using their workforce network, educating and mobilizing their staff, and putting the strategy into action in 48 hours. There was no federal coordination when the vaccine rollout started, resulting in a confusing tangle of various rules and structures that differed by state and county. Although the demand is promising, the obstacles that people face have been overwhelming. Shiftsmart employees are also helping the public register for vaccines over the internet and in person at designated vaccination locations.
