Gone are the days when aptitude tests and board interviews were the pinnacles of hiring technology. Organizations today need to be different, innovative, and creative to keep prospective employees interested in them

FREMONT, CA: Every organization aims to be the best in its sector, and this means they need to hire the best talent out there. Generation Y is dominating the labor market and employers are looking for innovative ways to attract prospective employees. Gone are the days when aptitude tests and board interviews were the pinnacles of hiring technology. Organizations today need to be different, innovative, and creative to keep prospective employees interested in them. Creating compelling employee experiences is the need of the hour, and this is where recruitainment comes into play.

Recruitainment refers to the process of including game elements into the process of hiring. The question that remains is whether this is an impactful strategy or just another failure? A study by TalentLMS revealed that 78 percent of the sample, consisting of 900 employees, was eager to work for an organization that would include gamification to their recruitment process.

Creating a Digital Game

Attracting candidates to submit their job applications by playing a game is a prevalent example of companies that can apply gamification in the hiring process. Although a digital game might sound like a good investment for a small and medium-sized company, there are other ways to include gamification in the recruitment process. Organizations can use corporate training software programs to apply gamification in recruiting without the hassle. Gamified Learning Management Systems (LMS) can help test a candidate's skills by discovering in practice whether they are a good fit for the role.

Organize a Hackathon

Hackathons are frequent among techies. Companies such as Google and IBM conduct hackathons on a regular basis to allow candidates to solve hard challenges in no time and boost their engagement. Hackathons are extremely popular amongst organizations as they cully leverage the concept of gamification in employee development. By incorporating game-like elements, hackathons foster collaboration among diverse teams and trigger innovation. As a result, hackathons have emerged as a gamification tool for hiring over the last few years. It helps to hire candidates who can work together as a team, have the right skills in practice, and have the adequate problem-solving ability.

Think Outside the Box

Candidates tend to exaggerate with their CVs. It is the duty of the HR professionals to identify what is real and what is a hoax. This was earlier done with the help of written tests and evaluations. However, these techniques are quite outdated and can often become monotonous for both employers and employees. Instead, incorporate out of the box ideas. Provide candidates with fictional scenarios, consisting of tasks that would assess their skills and give an accurate picture of their true identity. Such innovative ideas will also help to determine an employee's creative and innovative skillset.
